On Wednesday I held my Spring Photographer GTG (get-together) at Brownies Beach/Bayfront Park in Southern Maryland where me and about a dozen other photographer friends of mine gathered to have fun shooting three gorgeous models. One of them even wore a wedding gown that belonged to one of our photographers! I also took delivery on-site (thanks to my friend and photographer Noah Hayes) of my new Canon 5D Mark II SLR and immediately put it to use at the beach. While I love my 1st generation 5D, the new Mark II has some nice welcome improvements, including image quality. All images you see here were photographed with the Mark II in JPEG format with minor image enhancements including b&w conversions and slight S-curve adjustments.
A huge thanks to make-up artist Kelley Woods of FaceMode for sponsoring the event and making our models look stunning in front of the lens!
Despite the thunder, rain, and some muddy spots everyone had a total blast. We even managed to see some sun towards the end of the shoot. Enjoy the slideshow and some of my personal favorites…

- The beautiful Ali, photographer & friend from Northern VA, was a model for the day!

- As you can see, she was a natural.

- Ivonne looked stunning in the wedding gown

- Kelly was amazing to work with

- The cliffs at the beach made for some great backdrops

- One of the great things about shooting for yourself is experimenting with different concepts. I composed this image knowing I wanted to convert to a contrasty B&W later.

- Bridal sessions are something many of my brides opt for. It provides a fun stress-free chance to get the best images of them in their dress. In this photo I photographed Ivonne knowing I’d convert to B&W.

- The sequence of images of Ali on the beach was shot with NO additional lighting. We just got lucky with the light coming down just right through the clouds producing some amazing colors. Other than the minor enhancements I mentioned earlier and resizing for the web, these are almost straight out of the 5D Mark II! Another example of how good timing and exploring light can come together.

- Despite the very cold waters, Ali took some brave steps!
-

- And the clouds part just enough to let in some sun. Stunning!

- Ivonne was so fun, and brave as well for laying in the water for us! We were NOT even planning on trashing the dress, but the sun helped warm things up if only for a brief moment.

Thank you Noah Hayes for this one!
